Alexa Chung And Yasmin Le Bon At The 2010 British Fashion Awards

Or: Why I'll never be a cutting-edge fashion blogger.

I know Alexa Chung is considered a top It Girl, fashion icon and whatever. She's a very beautiful woman, for sure, but I've never gotten the magic.  It seems to me she's a little too eager to cross the fashion victimhood line, and that doesn't work for me. Alexa is not making it easier for me to figure her out- this is how she walked the red carpet at the 2010 British Fashion Awards- between the horrible hair and this unflattering Chanel dress (sorry, Uncle Karl), I'm utterly confused.

Now, Yasmin Le Bon is and has always been fabulous. I've even forgiven her for marrying my Simon. But this Christopher Kane dress is not doing her any favors and that's just sad.  So, instead, I'll comfort myself with a vintage Yasmin and Simon Le Bon:

Eva Longoria Parker At The 2010 MTV EMAs

Eva Longoria hosted the 2010 MTV EMAs on Sunday night. Throughout the evening she's gone through a dozen costumes (you can see some of them here), but this Georges Hobeika dress (?) was her red carpet look. This  Alexis Carrington on top-Vegas cocktail waitress on bottom isn't working for me. At all. Probably because Eva seems to have forgotten the skirt- this is what the Hobeika Couture (from his 2010 Spring/Summer runway) is supposed to look like:

Emmys 2010 Live Blogging The Red Carpet

I was close to giving up on live blogging the Emmys red carpet. Between being semi high on DayQuil for an ultra-wicked cold and watching Ryan Seacrest trying to interview the Jersey Shore people, I was ready to doze off with the sound of little Sophie purring in my lap. Seriously, what could I possibly say when after a brief exposure to Snooki I start thinking Kim Kardashian is one of the classier looking women out there?

But then some trends started to emerge, I saw Lauren Graham in a gorgeous Yigal Azrouel gown that had all the magic of old Hollywood and the Mad Men ladies dropped the ball so spectacularly that I actually found a thing or two to say.

So back to Kim Kardashian, who really looked stunning. Both the dress (Marchesa) and her hair and makeup are a serious upgrade from what we see from her too often.

Lauren Graham plays an insufferable character on Parenthood, which is probably not very easy. Her red carpet appearances are usually great and this dress is no different. It's the hair that I'm not really loving. There's so much great hair tonight, whoever worked on Lauren could have done better.

**Did I just hear Giulianna Rancic telling Dianna Agron from Glee that she's not big enough a star to not talk about her personal life? Can someone please slap this woman for me?**

Back to hair, there are some clear trends all on the soft side- soft wavy updos, pony tails that aren't pulled back too tightly and natural soft waves (from experience, I can tell you that some of us need about 4 hours of work to get that "natural").

Two people had cleavage issues: Seal and Christina Hendricks. Seal can only blame himself (and maybe Heidi) for not buttoning up, Christina was camera-abused by the director in that juvenile move. Ugh. Then there was her hair, which can only be described as a mess. And was it my TV screen or did she have something stuck in her teeth when she arrived?

Another Mad Men mess was January Jones and the blue Versace dress on its stiff crinoline, uneven length and those little ramekins at the front. What was that all about?

And wasn't the opening act the best one ever?

I had no plans to blog about last night's Costume Institute Gala at the Met, but then I saw the photos. It's actually an interesting event as far as red carpets go, because the focus is really on fashion and the attendees tend to take more risk than during award show season. Some of them shouldn't.

Maybe we can just focus on young Hollywood instead of Mariah Carey and co. . Anna Kendrick, Zoe Saldana (not crazy about the dress, but oh well) and the stunning Amanda Seyfried bring back beauty and glamour.

Now if we can just muzzle the E! people everything would be perfect.

Is Maggie Gyllenhaal wearing a tie-dye dress? Why?

When I grow up I want to be Sigourney Weaver and wear flowing red dresses. And be tall.

I'm not watching in HD, so I might be missing something on Tina Fey's face, but I think she needs to fire her makeup artist. If her eyebrows look off on TV I can't even imagine what it's like in real life. Unlike Sandra Bullock. I love the bold lipstick on her.

I have a personal rule about people younger than 18. I don't talk about them unless I have something extra nice to express. Let's just say that when Miley comes of age she's toast.

I was sure Sarah Jessica Parker's dress was a vintage Halston. It's actually a Chanel and she's rocking it. And despite what Seacrest says, while she has aged, she's doing it gracefully. Her hairdo is perfect for the dress.

What was Charlize Theron thinking? Would anyone attempt a guess?

For the eleventy millionth time: Guys, please shave for award shows. Especially if your beard grows in weird patches. Keanu looks ridiculous. Goodbye, my teen fantasies.

I got a glimpse of the ABC red carpet show, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but it makes you long for Ryan Seacrest. At least he doesn't take himself so seriously.

Golden Globes 2010- Live Blogging The Red Carpet

Stay tuned. I'll start as soon as I can get over how awful Giuliana Rancic looks tonight.

I like Lisa Edelstein. Always have. I'll assume her hair looks like that because of the rain. She's gorgeous, otherwise, even if she's wearing more fashion tape than dress. As does Olivia Wilde.

Jane Lynch! Wearing a dress! The color is pretty and as far as I'm concerned she's perfect.

I miss Lauren Graham (and Gilmore Girls). I don't mind she's wearing a Barbie dress and tons of hairspray. She's pretty and her Botox looks perfect.

Unless Elisabeth Moss is pregnant, there's no way to justify that dress. And she might have borrowed it from the Queen Mother's estate.

I got bored trying to write something about Emily Blunt's hair (the rain, again, I'm sure). Then I saw the radiating Kristen Bell and forgot about everyone else. Love her short dress. 

Then there's Sandra bullock with a dress that looks like it's made of some awful synthetic material. What's up with that? And with Fergie's lipstick? Aren't dead lips totally over?

Worst dress so far: Julianne Moore. She's so beautiful, which makes it sadder in a way. 

George Clooney has the cutest girlfriend in the world. She's willing to deal with his facial hair. He should marry her.

Marion Cotillard in Dior looks very French and beautiful. And that's the nicest thing you'd catch me saying about her.

On two opposite sides of the class scale: Penelope Cruz and Mariah Carey.

Julianna Margulies is the picture of elegance. Tina Fey- not so much. On the Fence about Drew Barrymore see-through dress.

Ginnifer Goodwin- Short dress, short hair, long winged eyeliner. I like it. Sort of.

Jennifer Gardner is wearing the best Verscae dress I've seen. Jennifer is so wonderful she even makes Donatella look Good. Very few can say that.

Kate Hudson is everything couture is and should be. Then she opens her mouth and you remember she dated A-Rod.

Two things I don't understand: 1. Julia Roberts' blond hair. 2. The fact Giulianna Rancic is still employed.

Christina Hendricks shows that redheads can wear colors other than green (attention, Amy Adams). Her dress (Christian Siriano, who was finally forced to acknowledge the existence of boobs) and makeup take her miles away from Joan, and surprisingly it's a good thing.

Beauty And Fashion At The L.A. Premier Of 'Nine'

Sarah Silverman is someone I desperately try to like and for various reasons that start with Jimmy Kimmel and end with her fashion sense, always fail miserably. I get that some people really don't care and are unwilling to put in any effort. I have my thoughts on it, but I can respect their choice. What I really dislike is when certain people go out of their way to not look good. Sarah Silverman is usually a prime example. The above was her look for the premier of Nine in Los Angeles.
