Sarah Jessica Parker found the ugliest khakis on the planet

Even my love for Sarah Jessica Parker can't blind me to the fact she's wearing the ugliest, most unflattering and utterly ridiculous khakis. I'm not crazy about the rest of the outfit, but these pants on all their pleats and banded ankles glory are an 80s nightmare. Actually even back then no one dared taking khakis to this level.

Two Classy Ladies

The celeblogs are so full of Z-listers and distorted reality show "stars" that I'm getting bored out of my mind. So it was a pleasant surprise to see the photos from yesterday's New York City’s fifth annual Shop for Public Schools promotion (a week-long event that has hundreds of stores across the city will donate part of their proceeds to public school libraries).

Caroline Kennedy has a Jackie thing going there and I love Sarah Jessica Parker's sweater dress. It's a very feminine and flattering silhouette (this one from J. Crew is a good option. I wish they had it in a v-neck or a very deep scoop), and, of course, grey. I'm semi-obsessed with this color lately and it seems to look just as good on blondes as on non-blondes.

How to lose celeb friends and alienate people- Nina Ricci Style

Let's say you're a top designer or the manager of a prestigious fashion house. Who are the celebs and A-listers you REALLY don't want to be mad at you?

Now, how many of you have Sarah Jessica Parker on your list?

Apparently, neither Olivier Theyskens, the Nina Ricci designer, nor Mario Grauso, the president of the fashion division at Puig, which owns Nina Ricci, share this idea. The full story is here, but basically, when Sarah Jessica Parker came to Nina Ricci to get a dress for the NYC premier of Sex And The City, she requested something that hasn't been worn and photographed in public by someone else. It might seem a bit ridiculous to us mortals who buy off-the-rack, but for a celeb who wears couture at a major event, it actually makes sense.

The problem?

The picture above shows Olivier Theyskens with NY socialite Lauren Santo Domingo at the Met's Costume Institute ball early last month, and, yes, it's that dress.

I think I know whose creation SJP won't be wearing for her next big event.

The Obligatory Sex And The City NY Premier Commentary

I have to be honest here: while I was really excited about the release of Sex And The City: The Movie (just think of the shoes), nothing turns me off as quickly as over-hype. But since I'm here for the pretty, the shiny and the snarky, let's ignore the PR machine and look at the dresses:

Sarah Jessica Parker skipped the crazy hat, and instead chose a gorgeous Nina Ricci gown. I watched the red carpet arrivals on E! (though I kept it on mute. I have done nothing so bad as to deserve another Juliana Rancic show), and there was also a questionable pair of shoes, thankfully hidden under the dress and a vintage looking clutch. I love everything about her look. The hair is her trademark and the makeup focused on her eyes, her best feature.

Kristin Davis made an unfortunate choice with her Donna Karan dress. I hoped it just didn't photograph well, but it was just as horrid on screen. Stiff, promish and the length is in what Tim Gunn calls "the frumpy zone".

It seems that I'm the only one who liked Cynthia Nixon's Narciso Rodriguez dress. While her co-stars have gone metallic, Cynthia is pale and ethereal. I think she looks lovely.

Kim Cattrall has apparently trying to orchestrate a wardrobe malfunction since the Toronto premier (see this photo). Still no nip-slip, but she looks dangerously close.

What do you think? Who is your favorite? And why does Matthew Broderick look mostly-dead?

Sex And The City Fashion

Sarah Jessica Parker channeling her inner Carmen Miranda, Cynthia Nixon shows a lot of sternum (and roots in need of some touch-ups), Kim Cattrall probably couldn't sit in her very stiff dress and Kristin Davis is as lovely and elegant as ever. I always liked her best.
It feels like 1999 all over again...
