Seen Around Town- Items Of The Moment

Here are bits and pieces, looks and ideas as seen on celebs in the last week or so. Which ones do you like? What doesn't work for you?


White denim. I love it, even if not necessarily the way Kate Moss wears it. I like to pair slim white jeans with a colorful DVF wrap top and cute sandals. I think Hilary Swank pulls it off perfectly.




Red lipstick. The tricky part is choosing the right red for you. Do you think Angelina and Rihanna got it right?


Little dresses in bright colors. Nothing says "summer" like a yellow dress.

I like strappy sandals, I like platforms. Not so sure about these bondage gear, especially the way Beyonce paired it with awful denim shorts, and Rumer Willis' black manicure is just a bit too much. The last pair was seen on Evangeline Lilly in Cannes. A little different and not half bad.

Kate Moss Parties Like It's 1988

Last celeb post for tonight (I promise something completely different tomorrow):

Showing what 20 years of hard partying would do to one's face and putting the T in trashed (she actually ended the night with the dress getting ripped and falling apart), Kate Moss looks like she's paying a homage to the new Star Trek movie and going to the Final Frontier (I'm resisting making an "It's dead, Jim" joke) in this space dress with the don't-try-it-at-home horizontal stripes and scary shoulder pads.

(Kate was not the only celeb with silver padded shoulders last week. The other one was Miley Cyrus, but I draw the snark line at the underaged)

Free Radicals At Work

Kate Moss is 34, much too young to look like this (click the photo to get uncomfortably close to Kate). Of course, up until Amy Winehouse has arrived in our lives, Kate was the poster child of living on the edge and irregular bathing.

Kate Mess

Such an inspiring style icon. She makes you want to smell and dress just like her. Not to mention the huge bilboards of her face advertising David Yurman jewelry above the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel on the Jersey side.

I'm not buying it.

Reason 2,098 why I don't buy anything she's selling. The picture was taken yesterday at Barneys.

Mossy

One of the Beauty Addict's posts last week as part of her excellent Fashion Week coverage was from the Jason Wu show. The makeup featured was all MAC and inspired by Kate Moss. Kristen is quoting a MAC makeup artist who defined this Mossy look as " very overstated, messy, disheveled".
My question is: Who wants to look like that?

Things I don't get

Kate Moss.

I didn't like her even before the drug scandal (why was anyone surprised by that one?), and I like her even less now. She doesn't represent any ideal for me and most certainly doesn't make me want to buy whatever she's wearing.

I've ranted about it before, but now I'm really irritated. I'm seriously considering boycotting each and every fashion house that chooses her as their model/spokesperson. I'm not a fan of any of the Bvlgari scents, so this one won't be a great loss.

Return of the Supermodels

It's wonderful to see my favorite model, Linda Evangelista, on the cover of Vogue again. Inside the magazine, Alber Elbaz of Lanvin is talking about how the supermodels made fashion both fun and exciting. I wholeheartedly agree. Vogue's September 1991 issue (pictured here) was exactly that, and its cover is maybe the most memorable I've seen. I hope to see more of Linda and the others.

That said, the Kate Moss overdose (pun not completely unintentional) is annoying me. Her charm escapes me, and seeing her in several ads in each magazine for some of the biggest houses is way, way too much.
